In the fall of 2014 I found the perfect PhD position at the University of Amsterdam. In the middle of November, I started the preparations for the fieldwork that I will do in primary schools on Sint Maarten within the Imagining the Nation in the Classroom program. In August I will leave for the Caribbean basin for nine interesting months.

If you have any ideas about education, the (Dutch) Caribbean, child ethnography, nationalism and alternative ways of homemaking and feel excited about exchanging thoughts with me, please do not hesitate to get into contact.

From the 7th untill the 10th of July, the 32 Standing Conference on Organizational Symbolism is held in Utrecht. The theme of the conference is ‘Sport, play and game’. On Tuesday the 8th, I will participate in a session on playgrounds and street soccer:

Boekman 99, het tijdschrift voor kunst, cultuur en beleid, staat deze zomer in het teken van kunst en cultuur voor en door jongeren. De titel “Creatief en ondernemend: Jonge makers en doeners in cultuur” verwijst naar de actieve en vernieuwende rol van jongeren op het gebied van kunst en beleid.

Namens Imagine IC schreef ik in dit nummer een artikel over veranderingen in de erfgoed wereld en hoe het doen en laten van jongeren deze verandering beinvloeden. Ik ga in op twee projecten van Imagine IC: ‘Panna’s en Akka’s en ‘Let’s party’. In beide projecten is de wereld van jongeren zelf van grote invloed op het werk van erfgoed professionals.
